NOAA UAS Program Participates in Multi-Agency UAS Test Event

Joint UAS Testing at the NIST Test Site tested the UAS across a wide variety of real-world tasks, July 11th-13th.

The NOAA Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) Program was invited to participate with counterparts from DHS, DOJ, DOD and civilian emergency responders for a joint UAS assessments.  The UAS demonstrations were held at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Gaithersburg, Maryland July 11th-13th.   Multiple UAS conducted multiple tasks, and the schedule of the test event follow:

 
Tuesday (July 11th)
9:00am – 1:00pm – Yuneec
2:00pm – 6:00pm – Drone Aviation Corp
Wednesday (July 12th)
9:00am – 1:00pm – Lockheed Martin
2:00pm – 6:00pm – USMS Working Group Meeting
Thursday (July 13th)
9:00am – 1:00pm – Aeryon
TBD – Draganfly (pending confirmation)

The Joint Testing at the NIST Test Site tested the UAS across a wide variety of real-world tasks with the following tests events offered:

•  Land Accurately (1)
•  Maintain Position (1)
•  Orbit a Point (1)
•  Avoid Vertical Obstacles (1)
•  Avoid Horizontal Obstacles (1)
Situational Awareness
•  Point and Zoom Cameras (1)
•  Inspect Objects (1)
•  Search Wide Area (2)
•  Map Wide Area (2)
Energy and Power
•  Endurance Range and Duration (2)
•  Endurance Range and Duration (3) (with weighted delivery object)
•  Dwell Time (2)*
Radio Communications
•  Attenuated Range (2)
Durability
•  Rain Tolerance (3)
Sensing
•  Visual Acuity (1)
•  Thermal Acuity (2)
•  Remote Viewing Acuity (1)
•  3D Acuity (3)
